Does Emura come with games?
No. Emura plays the games you own. Add them from Files, iCloud Drive or a computer: in the Library, tap Import Games. Each game gets its own page, and its saves stay beside it.
Which files can I add?
Game Boy .gb, Game Boy Color .gbc, Game Boy Advance .gba, DS .nds, and 3DS .3ds, .cci or .cxi. Zipped games need to be unzipped first: in Files, tap the zip.
My 3DS game says it's encrypted.
Emura plays decrypted 3DS games only, and has no keys of its own.
How do I add a 3DS game's update or DLC?
On the game's page, tap Edit, then Add Update or Add DLC. Both are decrypted files: a .cia or .cxi for an update, a .cia for DLC (one file holds every pack you bought).
Save states made with another update won't load. Your in-game save isn't affected.
Do I need a BIOS or firmware?
No. Emura needs no system files for any console.
Does Emura need the internet?
Games play offline. Emura only goes online for game artwork and details, the App Store for subscriptions, and, for supporters, iCloud to sync saves.
Saves and the game menu
Where's the menu?
Tap the Emura button between Select and Start (a skin puts it where the skin's maker chose). The game pauses, and the menu has save states, fast forward, Hold Buttons, a screenshot, Restart and Quit Game.
Will I lose my progress if I leave?
Not what the game saved. Games save the way they always did: save in the game before you quit, and it starts from there next time. Supporters' games reopen right where they stopped.
How do save states work?
Save states are for supporters: Save State in the game menu keeps the moment, and Save States lists them with a picture of each, to load, rename, share or delete. You can also import a save state someone shared with you.
A save state made by a much older or newer version of Emura may not load; the app says so. Your in-game save is always safe.
How fast is fast forward?
2× for everyone, up to 4× for supporters, and only the speeds your iPhone really reaches with that game: Emura measures it as you play. Fast forward turns off while your iPhone is hot.
Can I use a controller or a keyboard?
Yes. Game controllers and keyboards work as soon as they're connected, and the on-screen buttons step aside. Settings › Controllers shows which button does what.
Can I use .deltaskin skins?
Yes, for free: import .deltaskin files in Settings › Skins, and choose one for each console.
When something's wrong
There's no sound.
Check the volume. With Settings › Sound on Silent on (the default), games play even in silent mode; turn it off to follow the silent switch. While another app plays music, the game stays quiet.
A game asks for the camera or another permission.
Emura asks the first time a game needs one. To change your answer, open Settings › Permissions.
A game runs slowly or my iPhone gets warm.
3D games ask the most of an iPhone. Low Power Mode makes it slower, and a hot iPhone slows itself down: let it cool, and play without a case or charger if it heats. If it's still slow, tell us which game and which iPhone.
Why are there black bars in some DS cutscenes?
The game draws them itself, as a cinema letterbox: a band at the top of the top screen and at the bottom of the bottom screen. A real DS shows the same bars, so this is how the game looks, not an emulation error.
How do I report a game that doesn't run right?
Right after the problem, open the game menu and tap the speech-bubble icon (Report a Problem). Emura bundles the last moments of play, how smoothly the game ran and the screen, so we can see the problem for ourselves. Share it by AirDrop or by Mail to emura.support@icloud.com.
You can also report it on GitHub. Never attach a game file.
What happens to my games if I delete Emura?
Deleting the app deletes the games and saves inside it. They're included in your iPhone's backups (iCloud Backup or a computer), so restoring a backup brings them back.
If you support Emura, your saves and save states are also in your iCloud account: install Emura again, import the same games, and they come back.
Subscriptions
Is Emura free?
Yes: every console plays free, with no ads. Supporters keep Emura going and get save states, faster fast forward, their saves in iCloud on every iPhone they use, their iPhone's colors on the console and Screen Light. A free trial lets you try them first.
How do I restore or cancel my subscription?
To restore it on a new iPhone, open Settings › Support Emura and tap Restore Purchases. To cancel, open your iPhone's Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
What happens when my subscription ends?
Everything goes back to free, and nothing is deleted. iCloud sync stops: your saves stay on your iPhone, and what's already in iCloud stays there. Your save states stay listed, locked; you can still delete them, and they load again if you support Emura again.
Does Emura collect anything about me?
Not by itself: no account, no ads, no tracking. A problem report leaves your iPhone only when you share it yourself. Read the privacy policy.
